Ergonomic reconception of a workstation

Problem

 

This project aimed to deploy an ergonomic approach to a work situation, a real workstation, studied in a factory to analyze and identify the difficulties encountered by operators. Therefore, this analysis enabled some technical and organizational solutions to improve the health and safety of operators but also productivity to be introduced.
This study was conducted in close concertation with the company and its operators throughout the project.

 

The project, step by step

 

  • Demand analysis, ensuring that the main economic and social indicators highlight the problems at the workstation.

  • Research for background information about the general characteristics of the company, workstation and operators for complete mastery of the subject.

  • Ergonomic diagnosis of the station, following  an analysis of the existing work and an assessment of economic and social indicators by means of several recognized tools (Nordic and Karasek questionnaire, APACT card, etc.).

  • Ergonomic study of factors emerging  as priorities. They were dealt with to highlight quantitative and objective data of the workstation, through tools adapted again (metabolism calculation, Kronos captiv, standards X35-101, X35-109, X35-104, NIOSH, …).

  • Ergonomic requirements for  each problematic situations identified at the previous step.

  • Definition of pre-concepts complying with previous recommendations.

  • Choice and validation of a concept having established a desirable future task. The concept delivered is ergonomically evaluated and costed.
